2024 - Austurbyggd Vík. Planning competition for a new neighborhood in Vík in Mýrdal.
The proposal is based on the existing master plan. By positioning the residential area to the north and shopping- and service area in the southern region, do we shelter a new residential complex from the sound effects from the main road. The divide between the two areas is broken up by a winding road, which creates a diverse play of outdoor areas between north and south. There will be a lively street scene that captures the view towards the magnificent Víkurhámr and Víkurkletti and creates a shelter from the east..
The proposal emphasizes good connections with the existing settlement, for pedestrians and cyclists as well as drivers. A strong emphasis is placed on an attractive path system for pedestrians and cyclists and to support the concept of 20 minute town.
Residential area (ÍB8, ÍB9) build up at one traffic lane, which runs from east to west, and there are connections to it via axes from south to north. To ensure traffic safety in a family-friendly residential area, this axis is regularly broken up by bottlenecks and speed bumps.
Footpaths interweave the existing settlement with the new one and connect green areas, hiking trails and the surrounding nature. Visual axes between Víkurhamr and the seaside on the one hand and between the town and Víkurklett on the other emphasize the surrounding beauty.
